With an innovative zipper doodle, Google is celebrating the 132nd birthday of Gideon Sundback, the electrical engineer responsible for developing the zipper. The doodle shows a large zipper running down the centre of the search engine's homepage and opens to reveal
stories around Sundback, who invented the fastening device that revolutionized the clothing industry.
Born on April 24, 1880 in Sweden, Sundback emigrated to the Germany and later to the US to work in several companies.
He invented the first version of zipper not based on the hook-and-eye principle, the Hookless Fastener No. 1 in 1913.
