Freestyle Ground Moves

Lately, i've been playing a lot of futsal (5 a side football) due to the bad weather in our area, and i couldn't help but realise the importance of ground moves. Freestyle ground moves, as the name suggests, are done with the ball staying on the ground at all times. Most ground moves involve both feet moving swiftly together. A very good first touch and ball control is a must, since in a futsal court, space is at a premium and the majority of ground moves require the ball to be as close to the player as possible. A lot of moves the bottom sole (surface under your shoes) to be in contact with the ball.

Realistically, ground moves are much more suitable for futsal insted of football, as it is easier to move the ball(which is smaller than a football ball = easier to control), around with the bottom sole of the foot on a hard surface. The smaller space is another reason too, as a single move to find extra space or get past an opponent can usually lead to a shooting opportunity. As opposed to football, where defenders have more time and space to disposses the player. More often than not, ground moves are executed in futsal to frustrate and distract an opponent in order to find an opening for a pass, dribble or shot.

In the next week or so, i'll try posting a few individual classic ground moves that should be quite easy to learn. For now enjoy the video below from Tim & Matthew
showing some nifty freestyle ground moves. cheers.
